The Mount Everest of decision making

Imaging: You want to climb up Mt Everest. What pictures come to your mind? A. You, on the top! Waving a flag. Then: You, showing glorious pictures to your friends?

B. You: standing on the slope of the mountain. In front of you: 100 other climbers. The cold. The pain. Then the news: You won’t make it. You have to return without victory.

A or B? What is it?

Ask yourself:
“Do I want to do this?” or
“Do I want to have this done (or just tell everyone that I have done it)?”

Answering this question will bring you big insights. You will see if your heart wishes to do this — or if your ego is the driver. But your ego fools you. It will come up with many reasons why this is a good goal — even if it’s not. This projected future might not come. You just will do this as a means to a greater “good” — a future that might never come. Friends don’t care about your glorious victories.

So think again: Do you want to DO this?
